2025 Mazda Miata
Auto Editor
Mazda’s been fine-tuning the Miata for over 30 years, and honestly, it shows. This little roadster is still one of the purest driving experiences you can buy without breaking the bank. You can go classic with the soft top or pick the RF version with its slick power-folding targa roof—either way, you’re getting the same playful spirit. After a list of changes in 2024, the Miata is largely the same for 2025 besides a 35th Anniversary Edition model, of which only 300 will be built.
Under the hood, the 181-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder begs to be revved. It pairs beautifully with the buttery six-speed manual (though yes, you can get an automatic if you must). Steering is surgically sharp and lively and the chassis is nimble and eager to dance the night away. While the ride can feel a bit firm over rough roads, that’s part of its sporty character, and the price you pay for tight, responsive suspension.
At this point in the MX-5’s long journey, nothing new is really being reported. One look and you know what you’re signing up for. The great achievement is how dialed in every piece and part of the 2025 Miata feels. Everything working together in a balanced way that delivers an experience greater than the sum of its parts.
Inside, the cabin looks clean and feels solid, but space is tight—tall folks might feel a little snug, and storage is basically an afterthought (the trunk is more “weekend bag” than full “weekend getaway”). Like a carefully tailored suite, with only one real pocket for your things.

A lack of trunk space or smart storage cubbies in the cabin are criticism’s that seem to fundamentally miss the bigger picture. That being that long haul comforts with room for everything you need is not the Miata’s purpose. Its magic is found in a free afternoon, on a winding back road, top down, grin wide, chasing that pure sports car feeling.
In an automotive landscape that’s filling up with autonomous driving EV’s, cloud-like suspension, double-panned windows and whisper quite engines; we’re more and more cut-off from the raw, unfiltered experience of driving. There’s a certain tragedy to this trend, and the Miata remains an incredibly potent cure. Perfectly capturing that iconic roadster experience like few cars can these days.
Starting MSRP: $29,830.00
