2024 Genesis GV60 EV
Auto Editor
After decades of innovation, creative design and brilliant engineering, the Genesis brand has carved out a name for itself in the luxury car world. Having conclusively conquered that segment, it’s stepping into the luxury EV game with the sleek and quirky GV60 crossover. Launched in 2023, the GV60 shares some design cues with other Genesis models already, but really stands out by dropping the brand’s usual trapezoidal grille. Instead, the front is smoothed out, with a much more subtle grille set lower down. Giving it that expectedly sleek EV look while still staying true to Genesis’s style.
Inside, you’ll find two 12.3-inch screens behind one panel, blending the gauge cluster and infotainment system into a seamless, modern display. The interior is high-end, with premium materials and cool touches like a crystal sphere shifter that rotates into view when you start the SUV. A feature that endlessly delighted my kids and never got old. Under the hood, the GV60 delivers up to 483 horsepower and can go up to 294 miles on a single charge.
While other luxury SUVs like the Audi Q4 e-tron and Volvo XC40 Recharge offer similar status and range, the GV60’s attention to detail and fun features make it a standout choice. All new for 2024 is a rear-drive standard trim model to join the 2024 lineup. Not only does it boast a more attractive starting price, but it also delivers the best range. Up to 294 miles per charge. The mid-range Advance trim gains an addition 16 miles of range for 2024 thanks to optional 19” wheels, down from 20”. Which are still available if you just cant sacrifice that extra inch.
The Standard trim will net you a barely respectable 225-hp. Don’t worry though, Genesis is just getting started. In the Performance trim, you’ll get two motors and all-wheel drive for maximum traction. You’ll need it too, as the Performance GV60 model makes an impressive 429-hp. Positioned in a prominent enough spot to constantly tempt, is a button for the Boost drive mode, which when engaged, will further increase your power output to 483-hp. This is good for a 0-60 in just 3.7 seconds. Compare that to a 2024 Porsche 911 Carrera, which takes 4.1 seconds, and you can really appreciate the impressive performance.
Of course, using the Boost mode and launch control too often, will deeply impact the already slightly sub-par range of the GV60. Above 300 miles per charge is the new normal in this modern era of EV’s. Stacked agains that standard, the Performance mode, with its big 21” wheels, has a rather low EPA-range estimate of just 235 miles. If the majority of your driving is at higher speeds on highways, expect even lower. Thankfully, when hooked up to a DC fast-charging station, the battery can be juiced from 10 to 80 percent in under 20 minutes.
The 2024 Genesis GV60 is modern and sleek on the inside and out. The attention to detail and level of technical acumen is undeniable. It’s quiet, comfortable and infused with that unique Genesis magic that makes it feel special from nose to tail. A sub-300 mile range is unfortunate and can only be partially absolved by it’s quick charging capabilities. It’s entry-level price point will tease and entice, but the models that offers the most fun, especially the Performance trim, will push the price out of budget friendly territory for many. Even if the Kia and Hyundai EV’s offer more range for less money, the GV60 is a beautifully complete package that does so much so well, that it becomes easy to overlook the low range and high price tag.
